Artist Statement📝
My inspiration for this piece is to express my religion. Many people can be ashamed by who or what they believe in mainly because they are afraid of what others might think, but if you are a true believer then you shouldn't care what people thinks about you or it.
My process on my piece was hatching and stippling. I hatched the cross to make it look "round"and a light source on the left side of the cross and I used stippling on the hand.
CROSS CONTOUR (PEN AND INK)
My art work is a charcoal drawing of a girl that lost love with depressed colors (blue and purple) in the background. My subject matter is a depressed girl. The title of my work is called "Lost Love". I mostly used contrast for the casting shadows
My project is made from females who become depressed over lost love like a break up or being bullied or family death/problems. I used color pastels, vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, chalk, and charcoal pencils to create my piece.
My goal is when I create art it creates a meaning not a specific one but I want people to have different meanings to my art when they see it. Yes I think my piece helped me reach my goal because to me its about teenage depression but it could mean something total different to someone else.
I learned from my piece how to start with vine charcoal to map out and how to use compress charcoal to darken things and charcoal pencils to add details. Yes i imagined my piece to turn out how i wanted it because i took my time on it to make it a successful piece.
CHARCOAL PIECE
In my piece I created Chanel makeup products and tools and a drawing of a model holding the product in the background.
The way I created it was by drawing products like lip stick nail polish and foundation powder with a blending brush and a Chanel makeup bag.I also added mirrors and used a CD as the glass then I drew a model in the background wear some of the product (I outlined with pen and ink and colored with color pencils).
My idea is makeup can make you pretty but only natural beauty is beautiful.
My goal for this piece is to at least make it look neater and have more details and to add more items for the manipulation.
I honestly don't like my piece or think it is a success because i could have added more details and I don't really like the idea I chose.
SURFACE MANIPULATION
My artwork has a red/orange/yellow sunset with a big sun behind some mountains and a tree. I would call my piece "The Beauty of Our Earth".
My art work is made from watercolor paint. I used the wash technique with a round flat brush to begin my piece then I started to add more layers with the wet on wet and wet on dry technique, then finally on my last layer i used a smaller brush to add some details.
I chose to do a sunset because sometimes when I go to the beach or sit outside I like to watch the sunset and watch day turn into night but I made the sunset behind mountains because that's something I never saw and one day I want to see the sunset behind mountains. I tried to show a peaceful emotion so when people see my piece they can imagine the wind blowing and its not too cold not too hot and they have a calm feeling.
My goal is to become a better painter with all types of paint because I never really cared for painting because I wasn't good at it. My piece helped me reach my goal because now I learned how to do 1 type of painting and my piece looks neat.
I learned how to use watercolor and how to use the different techniques and what type of brush will make the piece look like its well detailed. The only issue that I have about my piece is some of the watercolors blended wrong because I rushed on my 2nd layer but I learned from my mistakes and I know now that it takes patience. My piece will influence my future artwork because I know the techniques and now I can teach others the techniques and my artwork will be very well detailed
WATERCOLOR PIECE
My clay piece is a cone shaped clay lantern that has a star and wholes on the front and around the sides and my granddads name with a cross on the back of it. The subject matter is the death of my granddad.
The tools i used were clay, coils,my fingers,a rib and wooden tools. I wedged the clay then rolled them into coils then I slip and scoured so that the coils would stay and stick then I smoothed it out to make it look like it wasn't made with coils. Then at the end I used the rib to smooth out the whole lantern. Last I drew my designs and cut them out.
I created a clay lantern with my granddad's name on it because when he died I was devastated because we were always close and before he died I never got to say my goodbyes or saw him before he passed and knowing the fact that I was never going to see him again made me make this project and i want to give it to my grandmother as a Christmas gift.
My goals are to help people that enjoys art know the techniques and the skills when doing an art project and to help them understand that are is everywhere and everything all it takes is some creativity. My piece helped me because it gives me a start on making pots for like a pottery class.
I learned how to use a rib to smooth, how to use the wood and metal tools to carve out designs and how to engrave words onto clay.
